the RMS Carpathia was the ship that responded to the SOS the Titanic sent out. however, due to one of its engines breaking down, they arrived 2 hours after the Titanic sunk. if the engine didn't break down, it is believed a LOT more lives would've been saved. and I also learned the ship met a similar fate as the Titanic. I'm talking about them both being sunk.... but by different causes. the Titanic, with the crew thinking that it could withstand a iceberg and going closer to it before turning, being sunk in the icy waters of the northern Atlantic. but the Carpathia, wat happened was it was attacked. on July 17, 1918, the last year of World War 1, a German U-55 submarine fired 3 Torpedos at the ship, southeast of Ireland. the U-Boat surfaced and headed towards the life boats. luckily, a nearby Royal Navy frigate, the HMS Snowdrop, was alerted by the attack and came to the rescue and fired at the surfaced U-Boat, making the submarine to dive and retreat to avoid depth charges *its wat frigates and PT boats used to destroy submarines that were under water. very affective*. the frigate picked up all the survivors and got them to safety. but there were casualties. very small amount, but still people. 5 of the ships crew died from the attack. from a ship that saved hundreds to a victim of unrestricted German submarine warfare

speaking of the unrestricted warfare, the German Kaiser *or Emperor* was against the tactic. especially when the US warned the German Empire to halt the tactic. the Kaiser advised the Imperial German Navy to warn passenger and merchant ships before firing upon them. giving them a chance to change their destination. but, after time, the German generals tried to convince the Kaiser to bring bak unrestricted submarine warfare, saying it will starve the British and French armies into surrender within 6 months. but the Kaiser mention the US Presidents warning. one of the generals gave the Kaiser his word that not 1 US soldier would land in France before the war ended. but, they were wrong, the return of the unrestricted submarine warfare brought the United States into the war and the British and French armies didn't surrender. they held out long enough for American supplies and troops arrived to France and was a crucial part of ending the war

fun fact: when the US arrived US General Pershing went up to Marquis De Lafayette's tomb and placed his hand on it and said "Lafayette, we are here". well, someone else said it for him because he did not speak French.... but they said that because it was Lafayette who not only helped Washington train and lead the US Continental army against the British, but also was a great help in convincing the French to join the war and secure American independence. and the general was saying the United States r now returning the favor to France

I forgot this. it wasn't just unrestricted submarine warfare that brought America into the war, it was the Zimmerman telegram as well. don't know wat that is, just ask me (:
